TYPES OF

Bespoke Custom Builds

Loft conversions offer the perfect solution when you need some extra space in your current home or business property. They are one of the most cost effective property improvement projects you can make and can generally be completed in a short amount of time. Whether you’re in Harlow, Loughton, Bishop Stortford or anywhere else in Essex, hiring our building contractors to carry out a loft conversion can also add significant value to your property.

At Mack Building Services, we undertake all types of loft conversion projects for domestic, commercial and industrial customers.

There are four main types of loft conversions that involve making different alterations to your home or premise:

Dormer

This type of loft conversion involves reshaping the roof structure with a dormer box extension, to create more space and increase the head height. Most often the dormer box protrudes from the rear roof slope of the house. They are one of the most popular types of loft conversions amongst our clients in the Harlow, Loughton and Bishop Stortford areas.

Mansard

Commonly found in urban areas such as North and East London, Mansard loft conversions have a flat roof and a back wall that slopes inwards at 72 degrees. They involve more work than Velux, Hip-to-Gable and Dormer types, but provide a substantial amount of space and head height.

Velux

A Velux conversion requires minimal alterations, making it the least disruptive and most affordable type of loft conversion. The only exterior changes to your property involve fitting Velux windows, which are designed to easily fit in line with the roof. Velux loft conversions are best when you have a high roof with enough existing head height available.

Hip-to-Gable

Hip-to-Gable conversions are ideal for clients in Harlow, Loughton, Bishop Stortford and the surrounding areas with detached or semi-detached houses. They involve extending the hip of your existing roof structure into a Gable end to maximise the interior space. As substantial exterior changes are needed, planning permission is sometimes required.
